Missoula Named a hot spot for Retirement

The September/October 2010 issue of Where to Retire Magazine names Missoula one of the 50 most appealing and most affordable towns in the country for retirement. The article states that Missoula made the cut from of an original list of 200 cities in part for its home prices in the past decade, but also because of the character of the town.

The Ranch Club was specifically mentioned as a place where one can live on a golf course without being a millionaire.

The Missoulian newspaper published this article reporting on the story

The article states that prices for homes and land at The Ranch Club are more than affordable, mentioning that a house with three bedrooms and two baths costs $300,000, and a lot on the golf course is only around $150,000. Ranch Club Realty broker Jason Sucheki was quoted saying, “I just had some Canadians come down and their jaw dropped when they heard how cheap (it is to buy) a golf course lot.”

Aside from affordability, Sucheki was quoted saying that many choose Missoula because of its access to large medical facilities, its mild climate and culture.

Missoula made the cut for Where to Retire Magazine’s real estate list – out of an original 200 cities – in part for its home prices in the past decade, but also because of the character of the town. About six miles from The Ranch Club community, Missoula’s downtown attracts a crowd that enjoys shopping the local businesses and spending time outside by the Clark Fork River that runs through town. The University of Montana is located mere blocks from the heart of downtown Missoula. Where to Retire Magazine chose seven other college towns as hot spots for retirement. “College towns offer a vibrant lifestyle with a fun spirit that many seek in retirement,” Where to Retire editor Mary Lu Abbott said.

The Ranch Club offers the golf enthusiast panoramic views nestled within a traditional links-style course. With multiple tee boxes on each hole offering yardages from 5,096 to 7,020, the Championship 18-hole course includes creative design elements and risk/reward shots to create a strong challenge for the scratch player, yet also accommodates the novice. Course architect Les Furber’s design philosophy is influenced in part through his long association with Robert Trent Jones, Sr., recognized as the “father” of modern golf course architecture. His firm’s reputation has been built on designs where golf strategy and shot values are paramount. The design approach is innovative, visionary, and with today’s ever changing ecological regulations, in tune environmentally.

Away from The Ranch Club’s golf course, homesites run as low as $89,750. The Ranch Club also offers Club Lodges, which are constructed to mirror the rugged, natural beauty of Montana. Inspired by the celebrated architecture of Nick Fullerton, each home is designed to integrate harmoniously within a landscape of open spaces, flowing rivers and lofty peaks. The Ranch Club maintains the grounds and exteriors of Club Lodges.

The Ranch Club is a golf community that sits on a 340-acre scenic swath of land in the Clark Fork River Valley. The Ranch Club offers easy access to the considerable events and culture of Missoula while still providing the calm of the countryside. At the center of The Ranch Club is its championship 18-hole links-style golf course. Club amenities include a Clubhouse with a fine-dining restaurant that features newly expanded indoor, outdoor and private dining areas; a golf shop; a new 15,000-square-foot, resort-style pool complex; state-of-the-art fitness center unrivaled in the area; and members’ locker rooms.
